What makes this role special?
As a Senior Cloud Engineer at Helix, you will play a key role in designing and securing our critical cloud infrastructure that supports our platform. You will work closely with product managers, scientists, and other engineers to innovate and enhance our cloud infrastructure while ensuring it is reliable, scalable, and secure.
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will:
- Innovate and improve our cloud infrastructure to support our product teams.
- Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and engineers to gather requirements and design new engineering solutions.
- Build infrastructure that is reliable and scalable for users and health systems.
- Advance best practices in Cloud Engineering.
- Mentor and guide Cloud Engineers, offering technical expertise and support to drive excellence in cloud operations.
- Implement strategies to optimize cloud spending and maximize budget efficiency.
- Design and implement robust and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions on AWS and other platforms.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes.
- Implement and manage observability tools to monitor system health, performance, and identify potential issues.
About you:
- A passion for improving lives through better access to DNA information.
- At least 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud architecture, deployment, and operations.
- 5+ years of development experience with languages like Go, Python, or similar.
- 5+ years of expert-level experience with AWS cloud computing.
- Willingness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
- Expert sysadmin skills in a Linux environment, including Bash.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and CDK.
- A strong affinity for an engineering culture that emphasizes Agile, DevOps, and continuous delivery.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
Pluses:
- Direct experience with CircleCi, Rollbar, and PagerDuty.
- Familiarity with full-stack development.
- Experience with regulated software systems.
- AWS or other cloud certifications.
- Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- BS+ in Computer Science; coursework in genetics or bioinformatics.

Expected Pay for This Role:
Helix offers a compensation package that includes three components:
- Base Salary
- Annual Bonus
- Equity
The expected base salary range is 1,040,000 MXN - 1,357,100 MXN annually.
Office Location:
Our office is located at WeWork - Varsovia, Mexico City.
- We gather in the office once per week for activities like pair programming, live collaboration, skillshare sessions, team lunches, and volunteering opportunities.
Onboarding Process:
Your first week will focus on learning the basics. You will attend live orientation sessions and work with your hiring manager to develop your roadmap to success. This will include sessions on benefits, security, privacy training, and an introduction to the OKR framework used at Helix.
First 90 Days:
- First 30 Days: Learn about Helix's way of working, complete training and onboarding, meet your team, and understand our products and impact.
- Days 30-60: Start contributing to projects, deepen your understanding of Helix’s processes, products, and services.
- Days 60-90: Build your OKRs with your manager, take ownership of projects, and begin demonstrating your impact on Helix’s mission.
