Role Overview

We are looking for engineers to join our teams, working on customer-facing products and developing features across our platform. Our goal is to enhance the financial wellness of our customers and provide a consistently great experience across all Gusto products.

As part of the team, you will lead and manage projects end-to-end, from defining features to building backend APIs, writing frontend code, and improving existing features. If you enjoy building impactful software, we’d love to have you on our team.

What You’ll Do

• Develop products that mitigate financial risk, prevent fraud, and enhance global payment transactions in a secure manner.
• Take ownership of what you build from start to finish, including architecture, implementation, testing, and iteration of Gusto’s Fintech product suite.
• Design scalable systems that enable the safe transfer of billions of dollars.
• Build a platform for fraud detection and anomaly detection to safeguard transactions.
• Drive third-party API integrations to offer new payment methods, including ACH, credit card, vendor payments, and real-time payments with redundancy.
• Collaborate with product, data, finance, compliance, and operations teams to ensure financial reconciliation and debt recovery processes are fully supported.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Passion for scaling Fintech systems that process billions of dollars.
• Independent and able to deliver production-ready code with minimal supervision.
• Experience working with SaaS technologies like Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, PostgreSQL, CI/CD, AWS, and other cloud-based tools.
• Ability to write well-structured, maintainable, and well-documented code that balances practicality and quality.
• Experience developing scalable systems, service-oriented applications, and more.
• Payments and/or risk experience is a plus, but not required.
