The role of a Backend Engineer is to work on the foundational layer of GitLab Continuous Integration, scaling CI and ensuring features remain performant and reliable. The team is involved in driving improvement to critical database infrastructure and provides input towards the CI data management strategy.

The CI Platform group was created to work on the operational aspects of GitLab CI, ensuring the platform remains best-in-class. The team has been focused on partitioning CI/CD Data and exploring aspects of CI Data retention and improved data management.

Some examples of the team's work include CI/CD data time decay, partitioning CI/CD pipelines data, designing CI data retention policies, and improving Sidekiq Worker performance.

Requirements

• Professional experience with Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL
• Experience working with a platform or complex application, with large-scale experience being a bonus
• Familiarity with building and deploying software with CI/CD or other internal tooling
• Familiarity with distributed, scalable, and reliable systems
• Experience as a user of modern DevOps platforms, with GitLab experience being a bonus
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, sufficient for success in a remote and largely asynchronous work environment
• Experience working in a highly agile, iterative software development process
• Self-motivated and self-managing, with excellent organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to work closely with other parts of the organization
• Sharing the company values and working in accordance with those values
