This role is part of Upwork's Hybrid Workforce Solutions (HWS) Team—a global group of professionals supporting Upwork's business, with team members located all over the world.

Work/Project Scope:

• Develop new database automations and enhance existing ones.
• Build robust tooling and automations to support a zero-downtime environment.
• Perform standard deployment, operational, and maintenance DBA tasks supported by automations.
• Create and maintain vulnerability management policies, procedures, and training materials.

Must-Have (Required Skills):

• Strong software development background with experience in a language like Perl or Python; ability to write code for automations beyond simple shell scripts.
• Experience with relational database management systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle).
• Proficiency in database languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, or PL/pgSQL.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation for data-related incidents.
• An automation mindset with a desire and ability to automate repetitive tasks.
• Preferably, experience with cloud management tools like Terraform and similar tools (e.g., HashiCorp Packer, Chef, Ansible).
